Reflecting on Presentation for Gwen

I really don't like doing presentations so I was nervous, but Gwen told me in future to not just go through the sketchbook, and that it was good that I mentioned what I did for the pass criteria. She didn't like the mixed media page in my sketchbook (the journal inspired page), well, she thought that the stamps that I had put on there were irrelevant because I only put them there because it looks pretty.

Polaroids

I would like to display my photos as polaroids inspired by these two images:

I will write underneath the images a caption for example "I found a stick!"

I will display them in a concertina style book in the style of Dianne Longley (blogger won't let me insert the image, see sketchbook)

Next Steps...

My next steps were to decide on a way to display the series of photos so I looked at Olafur Eliasson and David Hockney. This is the technique I will be using to display my pictures.

David Hockney

cartographic IV
Olafur Eliasson

I looked at Marion Smith's altered books. I tried my own page of an altered book in my sketchbook and loved it but the decorative elements such as stamps weren't relevant so I won't be using this technique. Maybe for personal use though.

Marionalteredbook2

I looked at Archie Comics and tried my own comic version of Bella in Illustrator, I didn't like it, it took too long to do and the outcome wasn't great so I won't be using this technique.

And finally I looked at Allison Shamrell's way of displaying photos in books, I really liked the idea of this but publishing a book would be too expensive and would take too long to be delivered.

Development of Final Ideas

I have decided that I want to photograph a Day in the Life of Bella (my dog) as I think that is the best way to capture her personality. I have taken photos of her outside at work (a mechanic's garage) because this is where she spends most of her time, playing with sticks and stones, mithering people to throw them for her, and she just seems genuinely happy all the time here. I think I got some really nice photos of her that definitely capture her personality and day to day life.

I also decided to take some photos of her day from her point of view so I decided to make them "dog vision". Dogs can't see reds, greens or cyans. I think this was really effective as it puts the viewer in the dogs position and I really like how it turned out.

Edited Photos of Harry's Dogs

I really like all these edited photos but I think I prefer the colour versions. I made them all brighter because they were all dull thanks to the awful weather.

Taking Photos of Harry's Dogs

Today I took pictures of one of the college's English tutors' dogs. We went for a walk in a field and despite the awful rainy weather I managed to get some decent photos.

These are the best photos out of the ones that I took. I am happy with them as I got at least one good photo of all four dogs. They all need some editing to make them a bit sharper and more vibrant due to the bad weather producing awful lighting.

E Portfolio Plan

Since I haven't got my memory card with all my images on with me, I will do a written plan.

I will include:

  • the studio pictures of Bella
  • the studio pictures of Beth dancing
  • maybe the photos I did for Mum's website for product photography
  • photos of my life drawing
  • photos of some of my A Level work, art and photography
  • my Lego pictures
